Gondwana – an Australian Indigenous choir, conducted by Lyn Williams, gives voice to the diverse culture of Australia’s Indigenous youth, providing a vehicle to build identity through deep collaboration with local elders and community. At the core of Godwana's mission is the preservation and development of language and story through song, involving intergenerational cultural activity and developing a new contemporary Indigenous repertoire. Following their guest performance in Slovenia, their first international tour in Europe will continue in Vienna with collaboration with the world-renowned Vienna Boys Choir.
To indigenous people culture is an organic part of their community. It represents a continuous relationship between living beings, plants and places the community is connected to. They pass their culture on to next generations and it is the very base of their future existence as a people. The worlds of indigenous people are an interlacement of supernatural forces, the cosmos, spiritual forces and gods. Each thing has its own master and each phenomenon a cause. It is extremely important to be in balance with nature. Earth is the kingdom of mythological beings, gods and ancestors, worshipped in rituals. Rituals help toward a peaceful coexistence with plants and animals, restoring the life circle. Indigenous people are trying to protect their heritage, values, cultural identity and way of living from external influences.
