Today we are used to listening to music only in concert halls, but a lot of music was created to be performed in different environments. What would you expect when visiting a social salon in Paris in the early 20th century? Lots of art. So intimately close that you could hear the breath of the singer and smell the sweat of the dancer. Painters, dancers, patrons, aristocrats, singers, literati and others met in the intimate rooms of wealthy hosts. There they sang and danced, ate and discussed,
made love and got wasted, created and argued. Anyone could sing, play an instrument, recite or dance. Salons were a place where visitors filled their spirits with art, sharpened their minds in conversation and enjoyed a wine. Thoughts, words, music, movement, paintings were all connected in such an artistic - social event.
A music-dance project with music by French composers - brings the experience of such an intimate gathering from French salons.
